In depth

Verdict

Bankable was denied by a duff draw and a sheep-following jockey last time but they can get the money back here; Hearthstead Maison would be a danger if tuned up for his reappearance, however Spanish Moon looks to be the main threat. The selection was all the rage at Ascot for the Royal Hunt Cup, backed down to 13/8 at the off. He ran really well considering his poor draw and had he stayed on a true line instead of tacking across then he probably would have won. He shapes as if he will get these extra two furlongs and there is enough in his pedigree to suggest that he will cope. Hearthstead Maison had a fine 2007 culminating in a Group Three win at Leopardstown; the stable's runners don't usually lack for fitness and the horse has won on each of his reappearances in the past. Passage Of Time was highly-tried last season but his two runs this season have been poor and the latter suggested that something may not have been right. Selinka disappointed badly recently, whilst Moyenne Corniche is a course winner and is a very unexposed three-year-old. Spanish Moon is unexposed, and he won well in a Listed contest at Ascot on his reappearance. His latest run though was lacklustre and whilst this is an easier race, he has something to prove now. The same applies to Happy Boy who was also in that Ascot race, whilst Halicarnassus will pop up at some point but his penalties make life tough in this grade. Al Shemali, formally with Sir Michael Stoute has been in good form this season, and he wouldn't need to improve an awful lot to be a major player here. An open contest, where the hat-trick seeking Wise Dennis should not be overlooked, however it is Bankable who can take the honours.
