Verdict

Unquestionably the most difficult race on the card and Magenko gets the verdict ahead of Always Rainbows and Silver Sedge. Tony Dobbin would have had the choice of a number of these runners and while it is some time since Magenko saw the winners enclosure, it is worth noting that it was the same Tony Dobbin aboard on that occasion. Always Rainbows has built up an unfortunate reputation as a professional loser. The horse has taken on some decent types in the past and has finished in the places but perhaps does not always show maximum resolution when push comes to shove. Silver Sedge looked to tire rapidly after holding a prominent position on his racecourse return. More can be anticipated today. Upswing held on that line of form. Lord Pat is now thirteen years young while Hurricane Bay looks a light of his former self. A difficult call with many first-timers and out-of-form performers but Magenko just about scrapes the verdict.
