A poor contest to conclude the card and PHANTOM SERENADE may be able to follow up a recent Hamilton win while Not Now Lewis and Byron Bay are worthy opponents. Phantom Serenade has gone up 7lbs for winning a shade under two lengths over 1m 1f at the Scottish track, so he is no cert here. However, after only six runs he may be just beginning to show some improvement and he should be able to handle conditions, so the pin drops on him. Not Now Lewis also scored when last seen, in his case over a mile at Thirsk, and he has a less taxing rise of 4lbs to contend with. However, his form has been poor in three starts when there has been cut in the ground and so he is not too difficult to take on. Byron Bay was runner-up in a Southwell claimer last time but has not won since Cheltenham Festival week of 2006. Slow ground and this sort of trip suit him, but you would be unlikely to want to wade in after such a lengthy barren spell. Castle Myth may be able to find improvement and ran with credit in a claimer last month, though he has to prove that he acts on the ground among other things. Red Skipper and Time To Regret would have claims if able to produce their best but if you must part with the readies then Phantom Serenade is a tentative suggestion.
