Verdict

A disappointing renewal which may see CLAREMONT provide Godolphin with their first winner in this race since 2002. Jukebox Jury is the one to beat on official figures whilst Nanton has a good record on the track. That's in stark contrast to the remarkable Halicarnassus who has never made the frame in four visits to the track but he has faced some stiff tasks in that time and he certainly can't be discounted. Nanton doesn't have a great deal to find on the figures and has run well enough fresh to be respected but this race may not play to the strengths of this hold-up performer as it's sure to be tactical. Drill Sergeant was a shade disappointing at Ripon but he's an honest sort who should be involved although he may lack the class of Jukebox Jury who picked up three Group races last year but ran poorly in Dubai in March and is now tried in a visor. That journey and performance are negatives for the Johnston runner so preference is for Claremont who made a satisfactory debut on these shores when third in the John Porter. That may have been a Group 3 but the field looked stronger than this line-up and the two that finished in front of him are certainly well regarded and Claremont's taken to reverse February's form with Halicarnassus on these terms.
