In depth

Verdict

First Trim, Mandelieu and Shatter Resistant make the shortlist here with top weight First Trim taken to maintain the improvement he showed last time. Shatter Resistant is still a maiden but he ran his best race of his career when a close second at Brighton last time. Running off the same mark here, there is the suspicion however that he will once again find one too good. Mandelieu has shaped well on both his starts this season and hails from a stable in form. He is relatively unexposed and a pound lower here than when a good third recently he is respected. First Trim ran well on a couple of occasions as a juvenile and after a pipe opener, was a staying on third in a good Sandown handicap-finishing very strongly. Brian Meehan turns him out before he can be re-assessed and the hint should be taken that First Trim should not be missed.
