Verdict

The time looks right for DONNA ELVIRA to come good, while Short Break, La Concorde and Mountain Hiker are all likely improvers who could have their say. The selection has run well in three maidens without managing to win. She sees out this trip well, acts on any ground, and has been steadily improving, so tonight can be her night. Mountain Hiker is related to plenty of success over middle distances and made a very pleasing debut when beaten only a length at Windsor. He can show more today and looks a threat. Henry Cecil's Short Break was not quite so impressive first time out but his fillies have been doing well this season and she is sure to come on plenty for it, so we pay the daughter of Azamour due respect. Of the remainder, La Concorde showed significant improvement for her debut when runner-up at Doncaster last time and there is sure to be better to come from her, although she would probably prefer slower ground than tonight's and Donna Elvira is given one more chance.
