In depth

Verdict

Sands of Barra gets the vote in this competitive handicap to open the card with Charles Darwin and Sir Orpen rated as the main dangers. The selection was well beaten at Thirsk last time but that was on heavy ground and the return to this faster surface should suit. He had previously beaten Tawaassol at Yarmouth and that form looks rock solid in the context of this race. Charles Darwin looks held by our selection on a strict form line through Tawaassol, especially as this is not his best trip. Sir Orpen has recorded his one career success over today's trip and this lightly-raced 3-year-old has to be of interest with both trip and ground to suit today. Cactus King ran well enough last time and is another that might be capable of making the frame, but for the winner we are happy to return to Sands Of Barra.
