Verdict

Eqbaal is undoubtedly a capable performer and did run better at Nottingham last time but John Dunlop's colt is proving an expensive horse to follow so may be best watched in a contest where the vote goes to the newcomer COVERT AMBITION, who gets the verdict ahead of Applaude. The last mentioned has had plenty of chances but Alan Swinbank's colt ran better when chasing home Maria Di Scozia at Redcar last time and he has to be considered after that effort. Willie Musson's Arts Guild is similarly rated to Applaude but was well held at Windsor last time and now looks best watched, while Jeremy Noseda's Icy Cool was disappointing on his debut and he would need to improve greatly on that effort to take a hand in the finish here. Walter Swinburn's Streets Apart ran better at Great Leighs last time and could be of interest if able to build on that effort, while Marcus Tregoning's Nasaq is less exposed than most of these after just the one start in a Lingfield maiden so far and he has to be considered. The vote though goes to Godolphin's runner Covert Ambition, who is bred to be decent being out of a dam who won the Yorkshire Oaks and it would come as no surprise to see him make a winning debut.
