In depth

Verdict

A maiden hurdle opens proceedings here and it's SAM LORD who gets the nod here ahead of Night Orbit and Massams Lane. The selection has made the frame at the last two attempts and this may prove his best chance to achieve his first win of the year. The gelding comes from a yard in good form and makes his track debut here today under the ride of Robert Thornton, his best performances have come on good to firm ground so the going here should suit. Julia Fielden has her string in good form this year and Night Orbit should be there or thereabouts here today. The gelding has been a little inconsistent since his last win back in January but comes here off the back of a solid run at Fakenham last time out. That experience will have sharpened him up and should see him placed here. George Baker's Massams Lane made a return to action last time out after a six month break and ran a rather mediocre race. The five-year-old should fare well here though in modest company. Salt Of The Earth has done well on the artificial surfaces of late but whether such form can be transferred to the turf remains to be seen so the gelding may be best watched. Our selection here then is Sam Lord.
