Crown Of Thorns hadn't shown much in maidens but was well supported on her handicap debut at Kilbeggan and ran well enough, though had no answer to RUNNING IN HEELS (NAP). Gavin Crowell's mare, a very moderate point-to-pointer in the UK, was making her debut for the yard when storming to an impressive victory and a 9lb rise doesn't look enough to prevent a double. Authorative hasn't been running badly but 1-27 over hurdles tells its own story and Cher Why Not didn't improve on his second at Thurles in October. Kalamkan has shown the occasional promise but makes his handicap debut on a very high mark.
