Verdict

Three last time out winners here but preference goes to Stavros ahead of Tiber Tiger, Investment Affair and Mellino. Stavros ran well in defeat last time out, beaten less than two lengths in a maiden at Carlisle and races here off a 10lb lower mark than when seen last time in a handicap. He acts on a firm surface and this step up in trip should suit. Tiber Tiger looks the main danger having beaten some decent horses at Beverley last time out despite not having the best of the draw. He seems in good heart at the moment and should give the selection most to do. If Mark Johnston has found the key to his Investment Affair then he could be the type to build up a sequence however he was all out to win last time and he may have reached his handicap limit. Mellino is interesting in first-time blinkers and if acting in them he could be hard to catch if getting an easy lead. For value terms alone, however, Stavros is the call.
