Verdict

LAURA'S LADY is one of two debutantes here, but given the poor form of those with experience, we'll tentatively suggest she can win first time out, being preferred to Scotch And Soda and Josphiel. Alan Swinbank knows how to turn out a winning debutante, and she'll be helped here by the draw. She's probably not a world beater, but wouldn't need to be to win this, for an in-form yard. Josphiel finished last of eight here last month when making her UK debut after an unproductive start to her career in Ireland. That was in a decent handicap though, so a return to this sort of level may at least see her placed for the first time. Scotch And Soda's entitled to come on for a couple of runs in which she's finished well down the field; she's a half sister to a couple of winning sprinters, and with improvement could land a race such as this. The other debutante is Gurtavallig, having her first run at the age of four for Tim Pitt; like the selection, she could be anything. Market support would be encouraging, but tentatively we'll suggest Laura's Lady could be good enough.
