In depth

Verdict

A competitive opener in which Garlogs is taken to beat Stoneacre Boy. Garlogs had plenty of use made of him in February as connections went to well three times in the space of four days. He won on two of those occasions and was just touched off by Angie'N'Liz on the third. That run came at Wolverhampton and while it was a decent run, it was clear that Garlogs might just prefer the straight five at Southwell to the bend at Wolverhampton. Stoneacre Boy has been a credit to Peter Grayson and the Merseyside handler continues to keep firing in the winners. The blinkers have been kept on the gelding this afternoon although there are obvious questions as to whether they were quite so effective when tried second time around. It will be fascinating to see if Fitzpatrick attempts to chase Garlogs. Rebellious Spirit is dropped back in trip. He could benefit if the front runners go off too quickly. Amber Glory is one of those likely to be up on the early speed. He has been exposed at claiming levels. Lucayos has been described as a bit of a dreamer by his trainer. His performances have been a nightmare for "win" backers. Loulah is plenty exposed. Coquet Island is returning from absence. Garlogs is recommended.
