Verdict

Mumbles Pier deserves to get his head in front having been placed in each of his last three starts and Peter Bowen's gelding should be thereabouts again but the four-year-old may have to settle for a place again behind HINTSNALLEGATIONS, who gets the verdict ahead of another Irish raider, Pengana. The last mentioned followed up his success at Down Royal with a decent effort when taking a novices' hurdle at Perth in July and was not disgraced in a decent contest at Bellewstown subsequently. He rates a bigger threat than Martin Todhunter's recent Sedgefield winner Word Of Warning, who has to be give weight away all round. Humble Ben was good value for his win at Uttoxeter when last seen in July but this looks tougher under his penalty. Oliver McKiernan's Happy New Year ran well on his only start in a Killarney bumper in April and could be of interest on his first start over hurdles but more solid claims are held by Hintsnallegations, who gets the vote. Michael Murphy's gelding ran well in bumpers before making a winning debut over timber when landing a novice hurdle at Tipperary in June. Not disgraced in two subsequent starts, latterly behind Hot Oscar in a decent event at Cork, the six-year-old looks the one to be on.
