In depth

Verdict

Macabre gets the confident vote to win this maiden with Halkin and Underscore rating the main dangers. The selection was a good second in what looked a better maiden behind Arabian Spell last time out. He looks sure to improve for the run and with his stable now in better form he is impossible to oppose. Halkin rates the main danger as he is a well-bred Chester House colt, half-brother to several winners on the flat and over hurdles but his pedigree suggests he will be suited by further in time and for that reason he is opposed. Underscore hails from a top yard that can do no wrong with its two-year-olds at present and this Spinning World colt, half-brother to winning milers Kentucky Squall, Mambo Man and High Speed Access is another that should be watched in the market - but Macabre sets a fair standard and he is taken to put his experience to good use.
