In depth

Verdict

AEROPLANE could be a class above although this looks a top-notch claimer with Gallantry, Orpinindeed and Flawed Genius all conceivable dangers. Simon Callaghan's son of Danehill Dancer was last seen in the Victoria Cup at Ascot in June when unfancied and finishing well down the field. There is probably little doubt that his rating flatters him but he has a touch of class and with Jamie Spencer back on board he should run well. Beauchamp Viceroy has an excellent record at the track but he is another who looks flattered by his official rating. The drop in class today will suit and he has a much better draw today than at the track on Saturday. Gallantry is another course and distance winner who drops in grade, and along with the 86-rated Flawed Genius he must be considered a major player. George Baker looks an interesting jockey booking for Alan Devonshire, Royal Envoy is in good form and won't mind the return to this trip, whilst Autumn Blades is another who comes here on the back of some solid efforts. Orpenindeed is rated 87 and steps back up in trip, but he is yet to win over this distance and so we will turn to Aeroplane to be an apt winner for his US-bound trainer Simon Callaghan.
