In depth

Verdict

Not a bad looking maiden on paper at least and we'll take KINGSGATE CHOICE to come out on top ahead of Esuvia and newcomer Major Monty. The selection made his debut over course and distance and caught the eye staying on for third after a tardy start. Whilst no match for the decent looking winner that day the colt showed distinct signs of greenness, shaping as though the experience would do him the world of good and with bags of improvement likely and from a fair draw we fancy John Best's son of Choisir to score at the second time of asking. Brian Smart saddles Esuvia and this filly arguably showed the best form on display here when taking third over this trip at Doncaster almost three weeks ago. With several representatives from strong yards in behind the form does seem to look strong, especially as the two in front of Esuvia had the benefit of previous experience. The only question mark is whether she acts on the all-weather and with that yet to be answered we narrowly side with the track knowledge of Kingsgate Choice today. Major Monty is well worth a market check as a well-bred son of Orpen who is related to a number of winners including on this surface. Tom Dascombe's yard are more than capable of having one ready to win first time out and his colt has been allotted a nice looking draw in stall two ahead of this racecourse debut so if the money does come for him it may well pay to take note. Kevin Ryan and Neil Callan are always to be respected here and they combine with Darling Buds, another making her debut, whilst Exearti ran in a maiden that has worked out well back in the summer. The absence of that one would be a worry though and she was ultimately well beaten on that occasion. Boy The Bell should be wiser for his debut and will be suited by stepping back a furlong but he must improve markedly to score and so we return to the promising Kingsgate Choice to land the spoils here.
