      Verdict

Gran Maestro has to go down as something of a disappointment on debut when a modest third in an equally modest Uttoxeter contest. A triple winner on the level, he should improve for the experience for the Newland yard and the drop back to 2m may also assist his cause. It's strange and slightly sad to see 2008 Hardwicke Stakes winner for Aidan O'Brien at Royal Ascot, Macarthur, running in this sort of race nowadays and he's likely to find one or two too good. The choice is newcomer, QUESTIONING, for John Ferguson. A talented Group class performer for John Gosden, he was good enough to outpoint the top-class Twice Over in winning the Group 3 Earl of Sefton Stakes in 2012 at Newmarket's Craven meeting. Not seen since last September, he should have too much class for this field if all is well and he takes to timber. Imperial Plan is best of the rest.
