Verdict

Rock Supreme, runner-up at Redcar on his introduction, arguably brings the best form into this opener though Marching On will almost certainly improve on his debut third at Musselburgh. Ventura Spirit was fourth on his debut over 6f here last month and looks the pick of Richard Fahey's two runners, while Saffa Hill and Thirkleby should progress with experience but a couple of newcomers catch the eye here on breeding. Surfer's full brother Baffled won on his debut as a juvenile but we prefer the filly ALIANTE. Mark Johnston has won this twice with debutants in recent years and his daughter of Sir Percy, related to a host of useful middle-distance performers, arguably has more scope than any of today's rivals.
