In depth

Verdict

Salut D'Amour was last seen finishing third in the Nell Gwyn to subsequent Guineas winner Speciosa and if that form counts for anything then she has to be the selection here, with Short Dance probably best of the rest. Salut D'Amour put up a decent display in the Newmarket Guineas trial and that was much more of a realistic idea of her ability than when she got stuck out wide and was never in the hunt in the Classic itself. With less traffic around here she can show us her true class on ground she handles. Short Dance steps up to a mile and has handled good to soft in the past. On official ratings the Hills-trained filly has 7lb to find with the selection and so is opposed in spite of the yard's good form. Spinning Ruby should handle trip and ground well and is open to more improvement, so a good run is anticipated, while Dictatrix should also be competitive if she stays this far, having already provided us with evidence that she handles the going. Heaven Sent will be plenty short enough for what she has schieved, and although open to lots of improvement, she has to be able to handle this testing ground to get involved. But the proven class act here is Salut D'Amour and she gets the confident vote.
