Verdict

Anybody who weighed in on the low numbers following the domination of the stands side runners in the Golden Jubilee were left shaking their heads here as BIG TIMER obliged from stall 28 for Linda Perratt. He raced fairly prominently throughout before switching inside in the final two furlongs when Tom Eaves urged his mount home at the expense of Beaver Patrol who made eyecatching late headway against the stands rail. This was Big Timer's first win since he racked up a hat-trick as a two-year-old but he had gone very close in Group Three company on his latest start, a fact not lost on the handicapper who put him up 8lbs. He is 16-1 for the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood but that price doesn't really appeal before we see his revised mark. Beaver Patrol had been slowly slipping down the weights but bounced right back to form here. He enjoys these big-field handicaps but certainly benefitted from his draw in box two. King's Apostle was always in the firing line and this was another good performance. He can win a race this season.
