A pointer to the Golden Jubilee on Saturday and Marchand D'Or on Saturday here as recent Chantilly runner-up Equiano made all on the near side to score cosily from Takeover Target in a staying-on second, with favourite Fleeting Spirit running a gallant race in third. They split into two groups here, with four musketeers putting their necks on the line by going to the far side, including the front-running National Colour, eventual fourth Dandy Man, and Moorhouse Lad with Matsunosuke. Having appeared to be ahead with two left to run that side started to wilt slightly and the stands-side group pounced. Equiano, unfancied in the betting because of his unknown Spanish trainer, made every yard of the running and looked comfortable from the furlong marker. Magnus raced prominently but didn't really pick up whilst Kingsgate Native never featured having been midfield throughout. Dandy Man though must go down as unlucky for the second year in a row as he again seemed to be racing in the wrong group. Favourite Fleeting Spirit saw out her race well as she has in the past but just found this top Group One to be beyond her; she will find an easier task and her value will be huge at the paddocks having won Group Twos and Threes in the past.
