Pebble Rock shied badly to the left as the stalls opened but soon made up the lost ground. Applaude cut out the early running though the field were tightly grouped for the first half a mile. Woodcutter increased the tempo at this point, Hall Hee tracking him and going well. Meydan City, produced wide, delivered a sustained challenge to come through and hit the front inside the furlong pole, with Woodcutter keeping on well to the line and going down only narrowly in second. Hall Hee fell away with King O'The Gypsies, never nearer and perhaps needing the run, in third.
