ORIZABA resumed winning ways with an ultimately cosy victory. Fifth in the Coventry Stakes last time, he bounced off the fast ground here and was well on top at the line. This confirmed the promise of his Newbury debut but tougher tests lie ahead. Lord Shanakill travelled strongly for a long way, and after briefly being checked in his run, held every chance at the furlong pole. He couldn't match the winner's finishing kick and didn't find as much as expected when let down. Whether that was down to the trip remains to be seen. Sayif is another who could be better switched back to six furlongs having looked a threat to all when produced with his run a furlong out. His finishing effort petered out somewhat disappointingly. Soul City caught the eye with some late progress and looks sure to make his mark in pattern company.
