Another towering performance from YEATS who galloped right away from his rivals to repeat his win in this race of two years ago. Tungsten Strike set a decent gallop and was nicely clear of his field reaching the straight but the winner was poised to pounce in second place. Johnny Murtagh moved him up to challenge and was in command two furlongs out before sauntering clear to enhance his reputation as the best stayer we have seen for some considerable time. Not much got into the race from the rear and that allowed Tungsten Strike to plug on for second with Sagara in third, the latter never really a threat despite racing closer to the pace than most. Those held up included 2005 hero Distinction but his effort was laboured in the straight and the bird had already well and truly flown. This was a swansong for the gallant Sergeant Cecil, who has not shown much sparkle this season. Connections decided it was time to draw stumps with one of the most popular horses of the past few years.
