A repeat success for last year's hero PEARLY WEY, who defied topweight under a well-judged ride from Philip Robinson. His jockey's canny knack to judge which part of the pace to latch on to in the centre of the track proved the difference as he delivered his mount inside the final furlong to nail Baby Strange in the last stride and get the verdict in a photograph. The runner-up never seems to run a bad race and looked all over the winner but could not quite hold on - he deserves to bag a decent pot before the end of the season. Joseph Henry was prominent for much of the way more towards the stands' side and he kept on gallantly. That could not be said for well-backed favourite Express Wish, who was also to the fore in a first-time visor and rather folded when push came to shove in the closing stages. Gift Horse travelled like thunder in rear before being switched to make his effort and keeping on quite nicely just behind the main players. He is eight now and perhaps does not have the devastating change of gear he once possessed. That said, he is well handicapped these days and is no forlorn hope. Pusey Street Lady reared as the stalls opened and left Ted Durcan dangling from the superstructure.
