VIEWED had finished last in the Mackinnon Stakes just three days ago but he showed what he was really made of here - although desperately needing the line as Bauer closed with tremendous purpose. Winning jockey Blake Shinn sent his mount clear with two furlongs to run and just had enough in the tank in the closing strides to fend off a tremendous charge from Luca Cumani's grey. The latter got a clear run down the centre of the track as he went in pursuit of the leader from mid-division off the home turn and would have only required another stride to give Cumani a famous win in the contest. C'est La Guerre and Master O'Reilly finished well to claim the minor places, the latter sneaking up the inside rail to just nail Dermot Weld's Profound Beauty in the shadow of the posts. Glen Boss, aboard Profound Beauty, felt his mount was not striding out to her full extent on the fast ground but she ran a marvellous race nonetheless and will surely be aimed at another bid in 12 months time. Cumani's other hope Mad Rush ran very well in seventh but the race turned into a calamity for Aidan O'Brien with Septimus, Alessandro Volta and Honolulu finishing in rear. That trio all had a good sight of the front rank for a decent portion of the race but the challengers were lining up in behind to pick them off and went past them as the tempo lifted. It seems reasonable to assume that the very fast ground was not to the liking of Septimus with jockey Johnny Murtagh also reporting he did not seem the right type for the race.
