An exciting finish to this Group 1 contest with Olivier Peslier playing the winning hand on board VISION D'ETAT to perfection. Last year's French Derby hero gave his fair share of trouble going to the start and was keen early on in the race but knuckled down well inside the final furlong to pounce and get the better of Tartan Bearer and Never On Sunday in a driving finish. Tartan Bearer was under pressure two furlongs out but responded gamely to throw down a big challenge and he eventually split the two French raiders. His best run last year came in the Derby at Epsom and a return to 12 furlongs may not go a miss. Never On Sunday's swooping run down the outside only just failed while Twice Over ran a brave race in fourth. He looked like the winner a furlong out after Tom Queally set sail and it was amazing how he actually finished out of the frame. He could be interesting in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park early next month. It will be no surprise to see Virtual back at a mile next time.
