Deposer dropped back in trip after a very good effort at Epsom and the move nearly paid off. Robert Winston used his mount's stamina to good effect and he had the field on the stretch with two furlongs to run. He looked the likely winner well inside the distance but OUQBA emerged from the pack to agonisingly cut down Deposer inside the final 75 yards. The winner had failed to fire in the Guineas at Newmarket with connections admitting he may have been a little flat following his win in the Free Handicap. But he was back on song here and was allowed to go off at an inflated 12/1 with retained jockey Richard Hills plumping for stablemate and market leader Infiraad, who ran well below what was expected and trailed in last. The front two were well clear of Goldolphin's Ashram, but they are a stable that remain in the doldrums somewhat but Brian Meehan should take plenty of encouragement from the return of Gallagher. He ran in some big races as a juvenile but still only has a maiden win to his name. He should have bags of opportunities to add to his tally this season. Epsom winner Ocean's Minstrel had an off day and was pushed along in midfield before dropping away - he has shown his best on turning tracks.
