SIZING EUROPE was the most uneasy of the leading contenders in the market beforehand but he jumped impeccably and that proved to be the difference in a hot Arkle as well as his high cruising speed. He was the best of these over timber being an Irish Champion Hurdle winner and once Mad Max made a bad error late on it became a question of whether he could hold on up the hill. He did - just - from a fast-finishing Somersby who was outpaced in the middle part of the race but stayed on well in the closing stages. Osana looked the only conceivable danger once Mad Max blundered and although his effort petered out he was a respectable third. Captain Cee Bee ran below par but he burst a blood vessel while Riverside Theatre was also very disappointing and never threatened, though he did run up the hill well once the race was lost.
