Connections had stated their concern about Big Drama's draw in one and it was noticeable that Eibar Coa (who was winning his first race at the Breeders Cup) kept his mount off the inside rail in the straight. He jumped well along with Cash Refund, morning gamble Atta Boy Roy and Riley Tucker amongst others and David Fawkes charge won the early battle for the lead and was never headed having seen off his rivals for the early pace. Hamazing Destiny kept on well for second in the lane with Supreme Summit coming from last to fourth, just failing to catch Smiling Tiger who plugged away having raced prominently throughout. Warrior's Reward had been settled in rear from his high draw and was one of those challenging wide in the straight and ran respectably to finish a never nearer fifth. Wise Dan wasn't favoured by sticking to the rail and that also counted against Kinsale King who had tried to challenge wider on the track but could find no way through and was forced to switch to the inside where there was plenty of room. Godolphin's runner, Girolamo, a leading fancy for the race failed to fire and was never involved whilst Atta Boy Roy weakened tamely and left the track in the van but was later reported to be okay.
