CROSS KENNON justified market confidence in gritty fashion as he was produced by Alan O'Keeffe at the last to challenge Viking Blond and he ran on strongly to score a shade cosily from the Twiston-Davies runner who probably found the conditions a little faster than ideal. The field raced at a sensible gallop but Backbord had dropped himself out in rear and was already receiving reminders at the end of an uneventful first circuit. The field began to quicken through ten flights and became more stretched with Ackertac and Viking Blond vying for the lead from Raslan, Sir Harry Ormesher travelled well in fourth with Cross Kennon momentarily outpaced in fifth. Viking Blond took over from his stablemate at the second last and looked to have the race at his mercy as Sir Harry Ormesher's challenge petered out tamely but Cross Kennon's stealthy progress had continued up the inside and he loomed large at the last and won going away. Backbord ran a moody race but did well to get back into contention and battled on well for third with Raslan regaining fourth spot from Ackertac who weakened up the hill. Our Bomber Harris made one or two mistakes and is entitled to come on for the run whilst Pistolet Noir was running a slightly more encouraging race until taking a heavy fall two from home.
