MASTER MINDED put wind and rib problems behind him with a very impressive performance on his seasonal reappearance although it must be said that this race appeared to be a match on paper and that he had little to beat once Albertas Run had fallen three from home. He had travelled well throughout and looked to be travelling much the better of the pair when Albertas Run took a crashing fall from which Tony McCoy limped gingerly away. We will never know how much he would have found in the straight if he had come under pressure but this was the perfect start to his season and his jumping - sharp, fluent and economic - was a joy to behold.
Tony McCoy was keen to ensure that this developed into a decent test of stamina and was always pressing for the lead; he was under pressure when falling but would undoubtedly have run all the way to the line. This was an improvement on his seasonal return at Aintree on ground that was softer than ideal and conditions here were softer than his optimum; he should continue to perform with credit in the top races if none the worse for his heavy fall.
I'msingingtheblues was bought for his owner as a fun horse to run on Saturdays and he recovered quite well from a bad blunder at the tenth to finish a long way back in second; this was a respectable performance but he will continue to be hard to place until given some relief by the handicapper.
Panjo Bere has a good record at this track and improved from a very disappointing seasonal reappearance over this course and distance but may also need to drop a few pounds in the weights whilst Chaninbar is capable on his day but has become increasingly quirky and lost his position on a couple of occasions before being pushed back into contention. It would be no surprise to see him revert to hurdling as he also looks high enough in the weights over fences.
