MASTER MINDED was entitled to win this on the figures and he produced a scintillating round to take the rescheduled Tingle Creek.
Noel Fehily decided to sit some way off the breakneck pace set by I'm So Lucky and Petit Robin and though it looked as if he may have given those rivals plenty of ground - he was able to progress rapidly on the run to the second last and put the issue beyond any doubt with two sumptuous leaps. Clive Smith confirmed that he is likely to head to the Victor Chandler at Ascot in January before attempting to regain his crown at Cheltenham in March.
Petit Robin tired in the closing stages and that was understandable given that he had been involved in an early duel. This was a fair effort on reappearance and it is entirely possible that he has improved.
Sommersby had proved unruly in the preliminaries and his participation was in doubt. He ran on well despite making a mistake at the eighth and he will be seen to better effect when stepped up in trip and ideally, on better ground. Gauvain tracked the leaders though could not cope once the race started to take shape. Perhaps this race was a classic case of the bounce factor but he is much better than this run suggests. Kalahari King was customarily held up and while allowed plenty of time to get into the race, his goose was cooked once he met the third last awkwardly. His better efforts have tended to obtain in the spring and though he will be better over further, ambitions of a King George look light years away on this evidence.
