DORDOGNE foiled Moriarty and Happy Today in a finish of heads to provide his yard with their fourth win in this race since 2004. The Dante entry was bred to make a better three year old and took a step forwards from his useful juvenile form with this game display and there should be more to come with his trainer adept at eking improvement out of his horses throughout the season. Quickly sent into the lead by Frankie Dettori, the Singspiel colt saw off repeated challenges to prevail and should stay further. Happy Today was always prominent and one of the first to challenge and was still the winner's nearest pursuer at the line; this was an encouraging reappearance from this Guineas and Dante entry, who is related to smart sorts Zafeen, Ya Hajar and Atlantic Sport, and he should be able to hold his own, at least, in Group races this season. In contrast to that pair, Moriarty came from last place to launch his challenge and kept on well without ever really looking like getting past Dordogne. Specific Gravity had been nibbled at in the morning markets and came to challenge around two from home; he momentarily came alongside Dordogne but as soon as he had done so the winner pulled out a little more. This was a respectable return on the fastest ground that he's encountered and he can be expected to improve. Fulgur was too keen to do himself justice and can fare better with this run under his belt but Toolain again looked an awkward ride and it would be no surprise to see the headgear which he wore in the Racing Post Trophy tried again.
