A good tactical ride from Kieren Fallon on the Oaks entry DANCING RAIN. She was fairly quickly into stride from her low draw and was able to go about her business at the head of affairs relatively un-pestered, with only really Monicalew for company. The field had stacked up behind that pair on the turn for home, and it was at this point that Fallon cleverly nicked a couple of lengths out of the field. However he didn't actually set sail for home until two furlongs from home, when Fallon's mount spearheaded a three-strong challenge of realistic contenders. However his mount was always holding his rivals and, with the rail to help, she kept up the gallop well to the line. On the face of it this performance isn't enough to see her competitive at Epsom, but it was only her second career start, and she still looked pretty green, pricking her ears throughout. She looks a strong filly who is not one to underestimate wherever she turns up next. Second home was Highest who stayed on better than Tasheyaat near the line. John Gosden's filly is big and scopey and she was keen enough early on, with jockey William Buick content to let her try and find her stride from her wide draw before letting her join the pack in fourth place. She moved through to try and lay down a sustained challenge before the two furlong pole but just couldn't reel in the winner. She saw her race out well but should come on plenty for the run; she'll get at least 1m4f sooner rather than later. Third was Tasheyaat who travelled nicely throughout after an alert beginning. She'll go one better when finding a more ordinary maiden that's for sure. The first three were well clear of plunge horse Sunday Bess. She was heavily supported and had a lovely tow on the inside for most of the race. However she lacked the tactical pace to go with the first three when they quickened (jockey had to wait for a gap so decided to pull her out which may have meant she lost a little momentum). Having said that she stayed on well when finding her stride and is not one to give up on just yet, especially over further. All Time showed some promise but paid the price for racing a bit too keenly; she looks a little backward. Cape Princess looked well before her debut and she showed promise, breaking smartly from the gates. However she found herself shuffled back before the turn for home and wasn't in the best position when the sprint happened. Ultimately she was well-held but should be followed wherever she goes next. Golden City is another to take out of the race, staying on nicely for Jack Mitchell on her debut, whilst Miss Topsy Turvy is now qualified for handicaps and will be very interesting later in the season when her yard is in better form.
