DICK TURPIN produced a classy performance to provide Richard Hannon with his fourth successive success in this Group Two and sixth in eight years. He enjoyed a fine campaign in 2010, lowering the colours of Canford Cliffs in the Greenham on his reappearance before finishing second in three Group Ones, winning at that level at Chantilly and finishing third to Goldikova on his final start of the campaign over seven furlongs. He had upwards of 5lbs in hand of his rivals on official figures so was entitled to win this but it was still hard not to be impressed with the manner of his victory. Richard Hughes had him settled in behind a sensible gallop, eased him out to challenge travelling strongly and the colt responded well and quickened clear when challenged by Cityscape. He should be a factor in all of the season's top mile contests but may also be stepped up to ten furlongs as Hannon has no easy task plotting a campaign that keeps Dick Turpin and Canford Cliffs apart although they could meet in the Lockinge next month. Cityscape is also expected to head to Newbury where connections would hope to encounter a little more ease in the ground than they did here. This late developing five year old handled conditions well though and can be expected to improve from this run. Held up in rear in fourth, just in front of Dream Eater but off the rail, he briefly threatened when drawing alongside the winner but was readily put in his place. He has already won a Group Three and has the scope to improve further this season, particularly when granted his conditions. Dream Eater travelled well in rear but lacked the change of pace to pick up the front pair; he has a modest strike rate but continues to perform creditably in similar contests and can be expected to improve for this outing. Last year's Falmouth Stakes winner Music Show was reported to have done well over the winter although connections feel that she may need further than a mile now; she was the first under pressure but kept on well enough and will face easier opportunities back against her own sex and connections will have been pleased to get a run under her belt.
