Frankel maintained his unbeaten record but golly it was close. Sent off a red-hot 3-10 favourite, he settled beautifully on the inner in fourth place in the early stages as pacemaker Rerouted went off at a tremendous rate of knots and was soon half a dozen lengths clear of the main body of the field. Frankel's jockey Tom Queally suddenly decided four furlongs from home that it was time to go in pursuit of the leader, quickly made up the deficit and was in front off the home turn and five lengths clear of the ridden along Dubawi Gold. The race was all but in the bag for Frankel two furlongs out but Queally had to resort to the whip to urge his partner to keep up the gallop, which he did to be fair considering how hard he had gone from so far out. Zoffany came with a wet sail from off the pace inside the final furlong but the line arrived in time for the winner although his advantage had diminished to three quarters of a length. As for the future, a more patient approach may be necessary particularly if stepped to 10 furlongs for the Juddmonte International at York but connections will have also been delighted with the way he settled in the stages of the race. Equally, he may have given some hope to his rivals that he can be beaten at some stage. Dubawi Gold's jockey Richard Hughes reported after that his mount had been blown away by Frankel once more - as in the Guineas at Newmarket - but this time he had nothing left to give in the straight. Neebras was another to finish quite well from the rear without ever looking like making an impact while Dream Ahead caught the eye on his comeback and kept on takingly from two out. He could be dropped back in trip and is one very much to keep an eye on. Excelebration was beaten four lengths by Frankel in the Greenham Stakes and got closer to him on this occasion. He won the German 2000 Guineas on his previous start and this likeable type continues on the upgrade. Japanes raider Grand Prix Boss was prominent early on but one of the first beaten in the straight while Wootton Bassett has not shown any of the sparkle from his juvenile campaign yet.
