This is likely to be an Oaks Trial in name only with the steady gallop set by Frankie Dettori aboard Rumh turning the race into a sprint from the two furlong pole and resulting in the field finishing fairly well grouped. IZZI TOP has always been well regarded by John Gosden and was better than the bare form of her Windsor maiden win suggests whilst connections also felt that she had failed to act on the fast ground at Newmarket where she finished a rather laboured third. She travelled far better on this occasion, moved up easily to take a more prominent position in the straight and had just enough in hand at the line. This is probably as far as she wants to go for the time being and it would be no surprise to see her drop back to a mile to take up her entry in the Coronation Stakes and, as a daughter of Pivotal, she could well continue to improve through this season and next if kept in training. Dancing Rain had had only one fewer start than the winner but looked the greener of the pair as she took a little while to pick up when asked to do so by Eddie Ahern; she went around a length down as a result but was closing all the way to the line and there should be further improvement to come. She is entered in the Oaks and the Ribblesdale and the latter contest would appear to be the obvious target at this stage of her development. Rumh was allowed to set her own fractions out in front but lacked the pace to go with the first two home; she did keep on for third and can come on for this reappearance, possibly over further. This was a big performance from Stella Point who only made her debut around a month ago; she was one of the first to come under a ride but only just missed out on a bit of valuable Black Type. She shouldn't be long in putting that straight though and may have benefited from a stronger gallop. There was a gap back to Devastation (who had won her maiden from stablemate Izzi Top) who had raced a shade keenly and may have needed this reappearance; she wasn't given too hard a time once it was obvious that she was tiring in the final furlong. This was arguably a shade disappointing but connections had reported that she'd been slow to come to hand and it will be interesting to see how she fares next time. There was plenty of money for Secret Love but she was badly outpaced from the rear of the field and only plugged on to make late headway; she was only the third runner in 2011 from her shrewd stable and may not have been as far forward as the market suggested. It's interesting that she was still in the Irish 1000 Guineas amongst other races and she, too, could be well worth another chance with this run under her belt.
