A taking performance from FIORENTE who was able to sew the race up a furlong from home under just a hands and heels ride. Settled on the rails by Ryan Moore, the (well-backed) son of Monsun travelled powerfully and his jockey was able to extricate him from a pocket, spurning the chance to wait for the inside run at the cutaway, and he moved into a share of the lead still on the bridle. Once his jockey asked him to go and win his race he responded well and was soon clear in the final 100 yards. He has a Derby entry (for which he was halved in price after this win), and may end up there, although he would need to improve on this and his stable also houses the current favourite Carlton House; a run in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot would look a more likely target. There was a good battle for second, with No Heretic eventually just pipping Unex El Greco. The former was well-fancied for his debut when third to Fury, and he ran a good race here. Forced to race wide from his poor draw, he was moved closer to the pace by his jockey before the turn for home and held every chance two furlongs out. He's in at Epsom but you'd like to have seen him get a win under his belt if he is to head there. John Gosden's Unex Renoir still holds an Epsom Derby entry as well and made a nice return to action after two runs as a juvenile. He was quite fresh early on in midfield but made progress entering the home straight and responded well to Michael Hills' urgings to almost grab second. He is now handicapped, although the fact that he has run in some top maidens will count against him in regards to his mark. Fourth was Incitement who really caught the eye; he was green in the early stages and didn't handle the bend at all on his debut. However this (already gelded) son of Motivator got himself into the race and will be much wiser next time. Next came Run Rabbit Run who also paid the price for inexperience on his debut, missing the break, but he made up his ground well and looks to have a future. The Cash Generator caught the eye as he travelled well on the rails but didn't have anywhere to go for a long way; when he did get some space he looked a bit green. Nothing else really caught the eye, with Searing Heat failing to get into the race after travelling wide throughout; he never looked like giving Henry Cecil a third straight win in the race.
