After her disappointing run in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, MISTY FOR ME got her career well and truly back on track. Well backed before the off, she was still second favourite to stablemate Together, but proved the stronger of the pair. A dual Group 1 winner at two, Aidan O'Brien could offer no explanation after her Newmarket flop, only that some of his inmates can do that first time out. Ridden prominently by Seamie Heffernan, she had to work hard enough when the pace quickened, but she was always finding more for her pilot and got there by three-quarters-of-a-length. Her trainer confirmed afterwards that she will now step up in trip and be aimed at either the Oaks or its French equivalent, and on this evidence she looks an exciting prospect over the extra half-mile. Conversely, Together, who was ridden a little deeper in the field by Ryan Moore, showed enough zip to get to the front through a yawning gap nearer to the far rail, but could not hold off the challenge of the winner. Nonetheless this was an admirable effort and she will be kept to a mile for the time being, with the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot likely to be the next port-of-call. Laughing Lashes had shown a slightly suspect temperament in the past, but was better behaved here and after showing nothing at Newmarket, she came right back to form, travelling well and gritting her teeth to make the frame. This was definitely progress on her part and a nice prize may well await Jessie Harrington's filly. The drop in trip at this level proved to be too much for Banimpire, but she will remain competitive when reverting to further. Derrinstown Stud Trial winner Ballybacka Lady was given every chance by Pat Smullen, who rode her up with the pace set by Claiomh Solais, but she was comfortably accounted for on this occasion.
