Mark Johnston gained a third success in this race since 2002 with FULBRIGHT overcoming a wide draw to win impressively. He matched strides with On The Dark Side until the filly started to weaken and survived a minor bump or two from the weakening pacesetter to comfortably land the spoils. This Listed race has struggled to live up to its status in recent years and this year's renewal didn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary. However, the winner is related to smart sprinter Baltic King and showed plenty of speed here, as he had done at Musselburgh, and sees out this trip well; he has Group One entries in Ireland for later in the season but could head to Royal Ascot for the Coventry Stakes first and can't be underestimated given his rate of improvement. He was beaten by the well backed Caspar Netscher at Beverley on debut and things haven't really gone the way of Alan McCabe's runner since. He was beaten when giving plenty of weight away in a muddling race at Pontefract and found things happening too quickly over this sharp six but did best of those held-up. He still looks a shade green and already looks in need of further having possible inherited plenty of stamina from his dam; he may yet be competitive at this level. On The Dark Side picked up a modest Catterick maiden on debut and ran well until tiring. She was picked up close home by Evervescent who lacked the pace to trouble the winner and may be better suited by seven. Princess Banu is already relatively exposed and was beaten over eight lengths in a useful Listed race at York on her penultimate start; she had run a little better last time but her proximity does hold the bare form down. Norse Gold is well regarded by David Elsworth but got a little lit up when getting a knock at the start and took a while to settle - he is fairly stoutly bred and is worth another chance.
