Tom Dascombe gained his first Royal Ascot winner thanks to a canny ride by Richard Kingscote on board RHYTHM OF LIGHT. The duo were happy to bide their time in the early stages before starting to make their move towards the far side inside the final three furlongs. Kingscote watched a succession of his rivals play their hands but he waited and trumped them all as he got on top from Dubai Queen inside the distance. Kieren Fallon on board the latter looked to have made a race-winning move as he went clear with a furlong to run but he had no answers as the winner drew level, who found just that bit more in terms of acceleration. Winter's Night was another to travel well into the race but just lacked a closing kick although she kept on well enough for third. Cape Dollar would have to go down as an eyecatcher under topweight. She also moved strongly in midfield but came off worse at a vital time from some shenanigans in between Sweetie Time and Wrekin Sunset which halted her momentum. She got back on an even keel under Ryan Moore and ran on for fourth place but would surely have finished a fair bit closer. Blessed Biata was the subject of a big gamble prior to the off and although she ran on late in the day, never looked for one minute like getting in contention. The Queen's Humdrum appeared set to make a strong move but showed a slightly awkward head carriage when put under pressure while early leader Traffic Sister folded tamely three furlongs out and finished tailed off.
