A thoroughly professional performance from MAYBE, who defied market weakness to teach her rivals a lesson. She was quickly into stride, before Ryan Moore took a slight pull on her in order to get a lead through the first part of the race. She moved through to challenge for the lead hard on the bridle, and was the last horse to be asked for an effort, despite being in a share of the lead. Once Moore asked her to quicken she showed a nice turn of foot to quickly master Fort Bastion and stride on by over a length. She kept the gallop up to the line, despite the tiring ground, and was a clear-cut winner. Unsurprisingly she was cut for the Guineas after this win, however it should be pointed out that this didn't look a strong Chesham and also that no winner of the race has gone on to win at Newmarket the following spring. Runner-up Fort Bastion caught the eye in the paddock and before the race but he was unable to match a smart filly. He was settled (with plenty of cover) into midfield and made nice headway with two furlongs to run. He actually struck the front just over a furlong out but he had to be committed earlier than the winner and that told late in the day. He looks progressive however and should win before the season is out, especially if he drops back to maiden company. Third was Self Centred who travelled strongly throughout. She eventually made her challenge towards the centre of the track, and just lacked the acceleration of the winner, having held every chance two from home. This was a step up on her debut run and she seemed to appreciate the field racing in one big group, providing plenty of cover. Fourth was Esentepe who ran well but just came up short, whilst Telwaar caught the eye in behind, getting outpaced before running on well. He may prefer quicker ground. Swing Alone ran a blinder on his debut, finishing alongside Telwaar and in turn well clear of the remainder. If reproducing this run he'll have no problem winning a maiden. Goldoni showed pace and took the field along but the effort and ground took its toll in the end, whilst Polydamos got loose before the start and came under pressure early in the race itself; a no-show.
