Vita Nova has to rate as one of the unluckiest losers of the season. Tom Queally's mount was travelling strongly but short of room from the two furlong marker and then the saddle slipped meaning her pilot was merely a passenger inside the distance. He did wonderfully well to keep the partnership intact but was merely a passenger. His mount is lightly-raced, firmly on the upgrade and could be a big player in a race like the Yorkshire Oaks. Gertrude Bell was in the perfect position throughout and ran on willingly for pressure. She's a thoroughly admirable sort who can win again at this grade. Dorcas Lane is in her first season racing and emerged as best of the three-year-olds. She seemed happier back on the faster ground and saw the trip out well. Eleanora Duse seemed to have no excuses in fourth and has yet to reach peak-form this term. This was a small step in the right direction. Polly's Mark was lit up in a first-time visor through the early stages and saw it out well in the circumstances. There was a huge gap back to the giant Fork Handles, who is proving disappointing, and the outclassed Bilidin.
