MEEZNAH was no real match for Wild Coco when the pair clashed at Newmarket earlier in the month but she reversed the places here in no uncertain style, appreciating the quicker ground, longer trip and pull in the weights. She travelled very kindly for Frankie Dettori and was one of, if not the last to come off the bridle. When asked for her effort two furlongs from home she lugged to her right slightly, but by that point had taken several lengths out of her rivals. Although Shankardeh chased her on the outside, she always had her main rival covered and in the end was a convincing winner. She evidently gets this trip well and connections will be delighted to see the former Oaks runner-up (before disqualification) back in the winners' enclosure. A trip to Doncaster for the Park Hill Stakes is on the agenda for a filly described by her trainer as 'lazy at home'. Runner-up Shankardeh ran well, finishing clear of the chasing pack in behind. She was held-up for most of the race and the winner got first run on her. She actually came off the bridle turning in but found a lot for pressure and was not beaten for lack of effort. She probably just found herself up against a better filly, as she certainly had long enough to reel Meeznah in if good enough, although a stronger early pace might have aided her cause. Third home was Motrice who improved beyond recognition last year and gave it her all here. She was in front with two to run but, perhaps slightly intimidated by the winner, seemed to lose her stride slightly with a furlong to run. To her credit she kept on galloping and held the others easily enough; she should pick up one of these at a smaller venue. Fourth was Polly's Mark who helps give the form substance, however she continues to be found out at this sort of level. Wild Coco came next, and only plugged on at the one pace. She didn't seem to handle he track too well, looking unbalanced as the runners turned for home. She tried to rally on the outside but the winner and second were travelling much stronger and she was well-beaten. She's only three, and connections may look to find a suitable target back over 1m4f next. The first quintet home came well clear of Gallic Star who got tired, Roxy Flyer who looked a little out of her depth, and the front-runner Bramlea who was blatantly outclassed. Ship's Biscuit was almost tailed off, and this once promising filly appears to have lost the plot. She's only won a maiden but will probably head for the paddocks following this effort, as she looks likely to struggle at this sort of level, and is so highly rated that handicaps are a no-no as well.
