Several things went wrong for NAWWAAR here but he showed enough resolution and class to overcome the setbacks. He had a good draw, and put his Ascot experience to good use with a relatively alert break. He had to be niggled before the turn in, and was then hampered slightly by Expense Claim who seemed to stumble. As a result jockey Richard Hills had to niggle a little more seriously but once on an even keel he came back on the bit nicely. He was forced a bit wide, and then suffered quite severe buffeting as the pack bunched up, but he moved smoothly up on the outer with two furlongs to run. He still had three lengths to find on the leaders but he picked up smartly and despite hanging slightly to his right, managed to master Grandeur in the final 50 yards. He attracted quotes for the 2000 Guineas, which isn't unreasonable, and he looks a slightly more precocious sort than his trainer John Dunlop normally deals with. In the near future he has multiple Group entries, and a race such as the Mill Reef or the Middle Park would probably suit more than the mile entries, as he looks to have plenty of toe. Runner-up Grandeur ran a fantastic race, as he was quite green. He was dropped in from his poor draw and came off the bridle turning for home, but he stayed on nicely, tracking the eventual winner through with two to run. Whilst Nawwaar ran on down the outer, he dived for an inside run with a furlong to go and struck the front. With the rail to help he was really game but just bumped into a better horse, with the pair clear. This trip will have been short enough given his pedigree, and he looks sure to excel over a mile or further in the near future. Best of the rest in third was Opera Buff who had a wide draw and quite a rough passage around the first turn. One of the first off the bridle despite having the experience of two runs under his belt, he actually came back on the bit with three to run. However he couldn't match the turn of foot shown by the first two and, under quite a strong drive, ran on well between horses. The winner may have tightened him up slightly but he didn't shirk the issue and looks a horse to keep on the right side of, although his handicap mark is unlikely to be a lenient one. Amazing Storm came next, and deserves plenty of credit. He was wide all the way (drawn 15) and was keen due to a lack of cover. However he was still in there pitching with a furlong to go and looks to be learning quickly. Sports Section was alertly away and the favourite dictated the tempo. He was in the best position to take advantage of the trouble in behind but weakened quite quickly when the sprint started and in the end was well-held. He is well-bred and likely to better this effort next time, with a smaller field likely to aid his cause if adopting the same tactics. Blank Czech was an eye-catcher in sixth, running on from off the pace, whilst Expense Claim did quite well to finish where he did considering he appeared to become unbalanced on the turn. Foster's Road's effort wasn't without promise, a comment that also applies to Hyperlink, with both horses sent off at big prices.
