An interesting maiden with those to have raced having already shown a fair level of form. A tight finish just went the way of the well-bred newcomer STIPULATE ahead of the well-backed and more experienced DEVDAS whose trainer, Clive Cox, has his juveniles in good form at present. The Dansili colt - who has Royal Lodge and Dewhurst entries - was settled just behind the leaders by Tom Queally, easing his way between horses to take front rank at the three pole. It wasn't until inside the final furlong that he began to pull away from the pack and he showed a good attitude to prevail. Not surprisingly, he showed signs of inexperience and can be expected to benefit from the outing and could be a fair performer in time although the best of him may not be seen until next season. Devdas had improved from his first start to his second and justified the market support with a big run; the front two did well to put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack and an average maiden should be a formality for the runner-up who will stay further in time. Strada Facendo had caught the eye in a traditionally strong Newmarket maiden at the July meeting but that form has already taken a couple of knocks and he did little to advertise it here. He was a little short of room jumping for the gates and appeared to stumble around two and a half furlongs from home, after which he was never travelling; he may be worth another chance. Snooky had finished in front of Devdas last time but failed to build on the promise of that debut and this was disappointing. Abhaath had been sent off at odds-on on debut but finished well beaten; racing in the centre of the back, he travelled well enough and kept on to finish just outside the places - this was a step in the right direction. Il Pazzo and Flavius Victor were always prominent and are now qualified for nurseries a sphere although it's possible that they were in the right position today as the pace didn't appear to be electric. As a consequence, Gabrial's Gift, Big Time Charlie and Orwellian may not have been seen in the best light; all three showed some ability and will be qualified for nurseries after another run.
