The first division of the maiden has been won recently by subsequent Group winners Short Skirt, Manbala and Pollenator. SEMAYYEL had attracted support ahead of her debut in a fair Windsor maiden when showing signs of ability and holds entries in the Fillies Mile and Cheveley Park Stakes. Always to the fore, this first foal of a mile winner was much more professional this time around and always looked to be doing enough despite edging to her left in the closing stages with the first two pulling nicely clear of the field. She should have more to offer although she will need to improve again in order to justify her place in the Group One races for which she currently holds entries. Balady is from a good family and wasn't knocked about when beating two home in a maiden at this track in July. Like the winner, she was always to the fore in the centre of the track and kept finding for her rider but couldn't get past her rival. She has no fancy entries at this stage but should be able to win an average maiden and is bred to stay further in time. Hazel Lavery did best of the newcomers in third and, having attracted support, this prominent showing was presumably not a surprise. This 100,000 guineas purchase is related to winners over middle distances and can be expected to improve when stepped up in trip. She raced further back than the first two and showed her inexperience when taking a while to pick up as the tempo quickened but kept plugging away and will know more next time. Pearl War is related to winners in the States and showed ability; racing in behind the lead, she appeared to become unbalanced in the dip before staying on again up the hill. Candycakes was sent off favourite on the back of an encouraging debut at the track around three weeks previously; she was well placed but lacked the change of gear of the principals before staying on again - she's related to winners between six and 16 furlongs and should win races when stepped up in distance. Winner's Wish, Chatterati and Seaside Escape showed a hint of ability and Amelia Bay can be expected to leave this run behind in time but Al Andaleeb dropped out tamely having run free.
