An impressive performance from MAYBE to retain her unbeaten record and claim her first Group One victory following wins at Listed, Group Three and Group Two level. The uncomplicated filly was settled in behind the early pace on the outside of La Collina and moved easily into the lead. She appeared to idle once in front but picked up again when Fire Lily got to within about a length and the result never looked in doubt, prompting predictable cuts to her price for the 1000 Guineas. The same connections last three winners of this race went on to contest the Prix Marcel Boussac at the Arc meeting and that race was immediately nominated as a potential target. Maybe won with plenty up her sleeve but she may not have achieved any more than when winning the Debutante with main market rival, La Collina, seemingly under par and fourth home Rubina finishing a similar distance behind on both occasions. Fire Lily was stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time and got the trip well enough although she did appear to hang in behind the winner when momentarily threatening to make a race of it. The Lowther Stakes second is taking her racing well and connections must be tempted to revert to six furlongs for next month's Cheveley Park Stakes. La Collina had raced prominently when going down by a neck to Maybe in the Silver Flash Stakes when in receipt of 6lbs but had shown an impressive change of gear when winning the Phoenix Stakes. It's possible that that contest rather fell into her lap given the strong early tempo or that she is best being ridden from off the pace. Either way, she was being ridden a long way from home in order to hold her position and looked likely to drop out at one stage. She showed a good attitude to rally for third and is surely better than this form suggests. Rubina still looked a little green when coming under pressure but finished off the race to good effect to challenge for third and looks ready for a step up to a mile. She could make a useful performer over middle distances next season. Princess Sinead had had this race as a target since winning her maiden in June having chased home Maybe and Teolane on her first two starts. She briefly looked a threat approaching the two pole but was readily brushed aside by the winner; she was slightly hampered by the second at the furlong pole which wouldn't have helped her cause and she ran a respectable race. Teolane has proved very disappointing after an encouraging start to the season; she struggled to make any ground from the rear of the field but did eventually keep on for pressure.
